6/5/06 11:32 pm - mortifyd - Visa services?

I have been getting emails from companies that promise to help with the visa process (and finding one I qualify under) for about $300USD - are these scams, or are there some that have really worked for people?

1/16/06 06:13 pm - mortifyd - IT certifications advice?

Howdy, I'm new. I'm starting a new educational path to boost my chances of getting a visa to live and work in Australia and could use some advice. I don't have a uni degree, when I do finish it I will have a bachelors in Anthropology.

I currently work in banking (back office, non-management) and I'm trying to sort out what would be the best IT certifications to get an employer sponsorship or to qualify for a visa as a skilled worker - without shelling out a couple hundred bucks to get assessed through a service. I have access to all sorts of training info to get certifications (mostly Microsoft) through my work - but I'm not sure what will be the best bet. Anyone have any suggestions or links that aren't in Governmentese?

10/18/05 09:08 pm - bitsofbeauty - Deakin vs. LaTrobe

Hi There! My name is Alana and I currently live in Canada. I've just finished my undergrad and I've actually recently applied to Teachers College in Australia. Now I'm trying to decide between 2 in Melbourne Victoria, Deakin and LaTrobe. I have to have my decision in the next few days so if anyone has any ideas at all it would really help me out; I've been very torn.
If I go to LaTrobe I would be in the Bundoora Campus and if I go to Deakin I would be in Burwood. Which campus is prettier? Which school is better? And where would I get a better Australian experience? I've been doing so much research and asking around here but these are the kinds of things that are very hard to get a hold of when you don't have first of or second hand access.

Please, any comments or suggestions are welcome no matter how minor; I just need somewhat of a deciding factor.

I'm so excited to have found this community! Thanks a lot everyone!!!

Alana

Hi everyone,

I cross posted this to a bunch of communities yesterday but somehow I missed this community. That was a bit stupid because it's really the most appropriate one.

Anyway, I just started a community called new_to_melbs, which is for people who have recently arrived in Melbourne, whether they're just passing through or setting down for a long stay. It's a way to meet people, get advice, and share stories. You should all join!

Thanks!

9/3/05 11:50 am - frugihoyi - College for International Students

I am currently studying Digital Media at a university in the United States. I will be graduating in December, and then I'm moving somewhere. I would really like to go to Australia and go to graduate school there, but I don't know anything about this. Does anyone know a university with a Digital Media graduate program? Also, does anyone have any idea how much it would cost for an international student? Can anyone direct me to where I could find any of this information? Thanks!!!

8/18/05 02:27 pm - asianmisled - Hey!

I'm new to this community so I decided I'd post to say hi. I recently spent something like 3 weeks in Australia, starting in Cairns and travelling (slowly but steadily) toward Sydney where we left after a few days. I absolutely fell in love with the places we went to and am definitely planning to move there in my later life. I had put Cairns in my interests which led to finding this community so thanks guys!

Hey everyone :)
Im Leigh, im 19 and I live in Australia. The Blue Mountains to be exact, about an hours drive west of Sydney.
I reckon this community is great! It made me smile to read all of your posts about how much you love Australia! You guys all seem like such nice people and hopefully you will all be able to visit Australia at some point in your lives!
I have my own plans for travel myself...I would love to visit America, and all around Europe, but I know I will always come back to Australia. Its where I belong :)
If anyone has any questions ill be more than happy to answer them!
